Samburu County Education stakeholders and leaders have resolved to upgrade Laikipia University’s Maralal campus to a university college within a period of three years.
Laikipia University Vice Chancellor Prof Francis Lelo said securing of a land that was donated by the county government of Samburu for an establishment of the university at Nomotio area, three kilometers away from Maralal town was among key issues that were discussed.
“They have also agreed that a task force that was appointed will accelerate the acquisition of a title deed for a 600 acre piece of land that the county government has committed for the future establishment of a university in the county,” Prof Lelo said. Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda and her Samburu East counterpart Jackson Lekumantare said the leaders in the region have jointly renewed their commitment to lobby with government to ensure that the county has a university in the next few years. – Johnston Keti
