Mandera County launches Ksh 450M 2025/26 bursary programme to support students, boost Grade 10 transition

The Mandera County Government has launched the fourth cohort of the County Bursary worth Ksh 450 Million for the 2025/2026 financial year, aiming to support needy students and boost the Grade 10 transition.

Speaking during the flagship, Mandera South Member of Parliament, MP Ebrahim Abdul Haro Kore hailed the county, saying that the initiative continues to play a vital role in expanding access to education and easing the financial burden on families across the county.

Over the past four years, the County Government of Mandera has invested a total of Ksh 1.7 Billion in bursaries, benefiting students in all secondary schools within the county. The sustained funding has helped keep learners in school, reduced dropout rates, and strengthened progression through the education system.

These efforts have translated into measurable success. Mandera County recorded an impressive 98 per cent transition rate to Grade 10 this year, a milestone widely attributed to the county’s consistent investment in education and learner support.

He added that empowering young people through education is an investment which is a strong foundation for long-term development and opportunity.

The legislator reiterated his strong commitment to education, describing it as a critical pillar for social and economic transformation in the region.

The bursary programme has become a cornerstone of Mandera County’s education strategy, signaling a broader vision to ensure that no learner is left behind due to financial constraints.

As the new cohort begins, leaders and residents alike have expressed optimism that the initiative will continue to transform lives and shape a brighter future for the county.
