A middle-aged man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of defiling a 15-year-old girl by the Ogembo High Court, Kisii County.
Resident Magistrate Paul Biwot heard that the accused, Evans Ombati, coerced the girl into sexual intercourse in the period between July 1 and August 27 at Endereti village in Kenyenya sub-county.
The Court heard that the accused eloped with the minor and stayed with her without the knowledge of her parents who suffered psychological torture for the whole period their daughter went missing.
Ombati pleaded for leniency from the Court saying he was a first-time offender.
Magistrate Biwot however insisted on the imprisonment term to serve as a warning to others who might contemplate committing a similar crime.
He gave the Ombati 14 days to appeal against the ruling.
Gucha sub-county Children’s Officer Welija Ombanga thanked the Police for arresting and arraigning the perpetrator.
He appealed to parents to report such cases to his office and to the police to curb such vices.
