MP Kiamba for Makueni tells parents not to “blink” in raising children while urging residents to utilise local institutions, as Sh75 million bursaries are distributed in Wote-Nziu ward.

Makueni Member of Parliament Susan Kiamba has called upon parents not to blink in bringing up their children, noting that there is no way raising children can be done hands-off. “Your method must be there,” meaning all eyes should be on the children’s upbringing.

She added that it is better to be referred to as a dictator but get a well-mannered child at the end who is independent in future with good morals than giving them extra freedom and they become a rot in society.

“As much as we love them, and we give them freedom and space, let us monitor them to notice any change and take action. I always wonder if you can notice a fraud in your bank accounts, why is it that you cannot tell when your child is taking mughuka? Let us be keen so that before they take three leaves, you can tell something is wrong and find ways to correct it,” Kiamba said.

She was speaking at Wote Green Park in Wote-Nziu ward during bursary issuance for tertiary and secondary schools, where a total of Sh75 million is going to be disbursed in the whole constituency.

She revealed that the CDF fully sponsors nine students from Wote-Nziu ward since they are extremely needy.

“Again, I call and invite all the stakeholders of the ward when issuing the bursaries, you see secondary principals, tertiary in this case Wote Technical and Makueni University team and even pastors and national leaders here. Their ideas, dreams and aspirations matter and can build this constituency. We also need an emotional connection between parents and their principals,” Kiamba said.

In higher institutions, she pointed out that Makueni Constituency has Makueni University and Wote Technical Training Institute, calling for residents to make use of local institutions for more development.

She added that the constituency has the basic packages needed to promote education from bottom to top.

“We are not saying going outside is not good, but why can’t we exhaust them before going out. It’s one way of ensuring cash flow and development of the area. Imagine out of Sh75 million, Sh40 million has gone outside Makueni; if we had three quarters of that money, we can be far off,” Kiamba said.
