Former Makueni County Chief Officer for ICT, Education and Internship Irene Makau has been appointed the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Trade, Marketing, Industry, Culture and Tourism.
Makau’s appointment follows her nomination by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. and subsequent approval by the Makueni County Assembly after a rigorous vetting process conducted by the Assembly’s appointments committee chaired by Speaker Douglas Mbilu.
The committee cited Makau’s professional experience, understanding of county government operations and clean integrity record in recommending her appointment.
Members also praised her technical competence and advised that she be placed on an annual performance contract to strengthen accountability and ensure measurable service delivery within the department.

During the vetting exercise, Makau expressed confidence in her ability to transition smoothly into her new role, having previously served in the Devolution Department before moving to the ICT, Education and Internship docket.
“In fact, if I become the CECM, I know the orientation will not take much time since I understand the system well,” she said during last week’s vetting.
She added that she was ready to work closely with fellow county executives in advancing the county government’s development agenda.
Agriculture nominee rejected
Meanwhile, the Assembly rejected the nomination of Serah Wayua Nzau for the Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperative Development docket.
The appointments committee said her statutory clearance documents contained irregularities.
Although the nominee later submitted genuine documents, the committee ruled that they had been presented outside the legally prescribed timelines and therefore could not be considered.
