Machogu asked to start partnerships for tree-planting in schools

CS Ezekiel Machogu meets Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya in his office.

Trans Nzoia County residents have asked Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu to initiate community-based partnerships in tree planting programmes in schools for the country to achieve President Ruto’s vision to plant 30 billion trees by 2032.

Led by the area County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi, the residents thanked the CS for visiting the region.

Oyagi promised his unwavering coordination as they make tree-planting an annual event.

“This proactive step strengthens the community’s engagement and underscores the commitment to environmental stewardship in the country,” he said.

The commissioner promised to pick a few passionate climate mitigation volunteers for bench-marking in some parts of Kisii and Nyamira counties where individual groups have joined hands to fight climate change.

Machogu assured residents of his ministry’s support to implement environmental conservation programmes in their schools.

Saying that schools are the main entry points to fighting climate change, he asked teachers to encourage their pupils to love their environment by keeping it clean and planting trees in both school and home.

The CS said that most schools in the country are ready to open on Monday after their postponement because of floods.

“Our ministry has been assured by the weatherman of the rain subsiding in most parts of the country; therefore schools will open as planned,” he said.
