Machakos youths have been encouraged to take advantage of new opportunities to work abroad following a recruitment exercise held on Saturday by the National Employment Authority in partnership with Mumbuni Engineering and Driving School. The drive, organized through Loivin Recruitment Agency, aimed to place 300 young people in jobs across the Middle East.

More than 50 prospective job seekers turned up at the Mumbuni venue, presenting skills ranging from masonry, plumbing, and construction to hospitality, security, electrical work, mechanics, motorbike riding, and domestic service. Organizers said the turnout was lower than expected due to the short notice period, but assured that another recruitment will take place from March 5 to 7 during the Machakos Trade Expo at Machakos Golf Club.

Director Collins Kaloki noted that many youths have previously struggled with the high fees charged by recruitment agencies. He explained that this initiative is different, as costs will be covered by the Youth Enterprise Development Fund.

“We have interviewed over 50 youths whose documents are being processed, and I am confident they will be leaving the country soon. The turnaround period is about thirty days,” Kaloki said.

Kaloki urged young people not to hesitate because of documentation requirements, stressing that agents are ready to facilitate the process. He also encouraged youths to acquire skills to remain competitive when such opportunities arise.

National Employment Authority County Employment Officer Geoffrey Lesayo, who accompanied Kaloki, assured participants that the recruitment was legitimate and urged more youths to attend the upcoming exercise at Machakos Golf Club.
