- Machakos County will begin recovering encroached public land in Mwala Sub-county from next week, Lands Executive Nathaniel Nganga says.
- Surveyors and physical planners will demarcate school boundaries as the county moves to reclaim affected public properties.
- Governor Wavinya Ndeti says encroachment has denied schools and other public facilities space for expansion and development.
Machakos Lands CECM Nathaniel Nganga has said his department will from next week begin recovering all public land grabbed in Mwala Sub-county, including school land.
Nganga said he had received firm instructions from Governor Wavinya Ndeti to ensure all encroachers on school land move out with immediate effect.
The CECM was speaking at Maweli in Mwala, where Governor Wavinya had gone to inspect the desilting of Kaaria Earth Dam ahead of the expected El Niño rains.
Governor Wavinya said encroachment on public land in Mwala had become rampant, denying public facilities room for expansion and development.
“No one is allowed to encroach on public land and because I have been given instructions by our Governor, beginning next week Monday a team of surveyors and physical planners will come here with maps and work with parents and school Boards of Management to ensure school boundaries are clearly demarcated,” said Nganga, who was among Executive Committee Members accompanying the Governor on her development tour of Mwala on Wednesday.
He warned those who had encroached on public land that it would be recovered, extending the same warning to those who had encroached on land meant for dams and other public utilities.
