Machakos Sub-county crowned champions at Teachers’ Fun Day tournament

Part of the action during the Machakos Teachers’ Fun Day football tournament where Machakos Sub-county emerged champions.

Machakos Sub-county displayed exceptional teamwork and resilience to emerge as the overall winners of the Machakos Teachers’ Fun Day football tournament, after edging out Yatta Sub-county 5–4 on penalties in a thrilling final played at the Machakos Teachers Training Grounds.

The highly competitive event brought together teachers from various sub-counties — Yatta, Mwala, Athiriver, Matungulu, Masinga, Kangundo, Kalama, Kathiani, Ndithini, and Machakos — to celebrate unity, physical fitness, and teamwork through sports.

In Pool A, Yatta, Mwala, Matungulu, and Athiriver produced tight matches that mainly ended in draws. Yatta secured a semifinal slot after defeating Matungulu 2–1, while Mwala advanced with a 3–0 win over Athiriver.

Pool B saw Masinga, Kangundo, and Kalama share points in evenly contested matches, while Pool C had Machakos dominate with a 1–0 win over Ndithini after a goalless draw against Kathiani.

In the semifinals, Yatta overcame Masinga 1–0 to book their place in the final, while Machakos edged out Mwala by the same scoreline.

The grand finale between Machakos and Yatta was a captivating contest filled with skill and determination from both sides.

Despite several scoring opportunities, neither team managed to find the net during regulation time, forcing the game into a penalty shootout.

Machakos eventually triumphed 5–4 on penalties, sending their fans into celebration as they were crowned the 2025 Machakos Teachers’ Fun Day champions.

Organisers commended all participants for their sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline throughout the competition, emphasising that the tournament was more than just about football; it was a celebration of unity, wellness, and the spirit of the teaching fraternity.
