Little known private school that beat odds to top Bunyala sub county

Excel Starlet Academy managed to floor the most established academic giants in Bunyala sub county in 2022 KCPE to emerge the top school in the region and the second best in Busia county.

Contrary to the norm of private schools having good infrastructure, good learning materials and well paid teachers that steer good performance, Excel Starlet Academy lacks all of these.

The school head teacher Pascaline Anyango Ojiambo said most of the time, the school doesn’t even have enough money to pay teachers since most students come from humble backgrounds with their parents fishing as their only source of livelihood.

She stated that the other challenge the school experiences is parents transferring their children when they reach class six

She stated that the school registered 23 candidates (10 boys and 13 girls) for 2022 KCPE and that most of them joined various top secondary schools like Pangani, Bunyore and Asumbi Girls High schools and Kabianga Boys to mention just but a few.

Ojiambo attributed the outstanding academic performance to a team of dedicated and hardworking teachers as well as an able BoM that has steered the school to greater heights of academic excellence despite the odds.

She also attributed the good performance to discipline and hard work on the part of the pupils.

The school head said this year, they have registered 25 candidates who have set a target of 380.

“Our key vision is to ensure we provide better education foundation to all the learners,” said the school head.

The school, which has an enrollment of 224 pupils, actively participates in various co-curricular activities like ball games and music among others.
