KUPPET West Pokot wants KNEC to undertake agreement with teachers on payments before making exams to guarantee timely payment of teachers involved in the administration of national examinations.

Mathew Merikum said TSC should have a clear framework with KNEC outlining payment timelines for all teachers engaged in managing national examinations
The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to enter into a formal written agreement with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to guarantee timely payment of teachers involved in the administration of national examinations.
KUPPET Assistant Executive Secretary for West Pokot County, Mathew Merikum, said it is unprofessional for teachers to continue offering examination services while having to wait for months to receive their allowances.
Speaking to Education News, Merikum noted that TSC, as an independent commission established under the Constitution 2010, should have a clear framework with KNEC outlining payment timelines for all teachers engaged in managing national examinations, including the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

“We request TSC to establish a formal written agreement with KNEC to ensure that all teachers involved in the management of national examinations are paid within a specified timeline,” said Merikum.
He observed that delays in payment have become a recurring concern, with some teachers waiting for several months before receiving their dues after participating in examination administration.
Merikum emphasized that prompt payment would boost morale and enable teachers to perform their duties more effectively during the examination period.
He added that KUPPET has confidence in the Teachers Service Commission and believes a formal arrangement with KNEC would help address the persistent delays and improve the welfare of teachers serving as examination officials.
