KUPPET Vihiga branch ushers in new leadership

The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Vihiga Branch has concluded its elections, ushering in a new team of officials to steer the union’s leadership. The polls, which featured both unopposed candidates and competitive races, produced a mix of continuity and change across key positions.

Edward Matende was elected Assistant Executive Secretary unopposed, while Judith Kasaya and Cynthia Musitikho also secured uncontested victories as First and Third Assistant Gender Secretaries respectively. Edwin Onyango similarly took the Secretary Tertiary post without challenge.

In the Organizing Secretary race, Sabala Inyeni emerged victorious with 1,386 votes, defeating Stephen with 583 and Dennis Mwanga who managed 74.

For Executive Secretary, Charles Otiende secured a decisive win with 1,704 votes against Wilson Okutoyi’s 341.

The Gender Secretary contest saw Josephine Kasamani clinch the seat with 1,042 votes, outpacing Remmy Ochango (664) and Priscilla Kanaiza (331). Francis Kulali was elected Chairman after garnering 1,615 votes, defeating Oliver Maganga Odanga who polled 418.

Treasurer Lynn Lugadiru won overwhelmingly with 1,915 votes against Teresa Murage’s 127. In the Junior Secondary (JSS) Secretary race, Solomon Asige triumphed with 1,141 votes over Christine Oranga’s 895. Duncan Kihima secured the Secretary Secondary post with 1,183 votes, beating Clinton Likami (679) and Elkana Ongaya (180).

Linda Mudegu was elected Vice Chairperson with 1,517 votes, defeating Wilson Ayodi who received 520. Simon Achira clinched the Vice Treasurer position with 1,674 votes against Robert Ouko’s 361. Caroline Kavere won the Second Assistant Gender Secretary seat with 1,154 votes, edging out Caroline Kamila who had 868.

The election results were compiled and announced by outgoing Executive Secretary Sabala Inyeni.
