Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisii branch has a new Secretary for Secondary Schools after it held a hotly contested by-election recently.

The position attracted seven candidates who paraded themselves at Gusii stadium to present their manifestos in a bid to entice the teachers to vote for them.

Wilfred Ontita Nyang’au of Rogongo Secondary in Nyamache sub county emerged victorious with 665 votes against his closest competitor Sostener Ntabo garnering 261votes.

Cosmus Moreka and Ruth Morang’a tied with 41 votes while Abel Orora and Hesborn got one vote each.

The Branch Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha lauded teachers for maintaining peace during the elections and welcomed the new secretary to the branch’s leadership.

He appealed to the runners up to shelve their campaign heat and shake hands with their competitors.

“The short-lived campaign spirit must cease now as we all settle to serve our Union,” he said

Mr. Abincha was flanked by his Chairman Laban Ouko of Nyangoge Girls’ Secondary school.

In his appreciation speech, Mr. Ontita thanked teachers for voting him in to serve them and promised to learn from those in senior leadership to discharge his mandate effectively.

The Secretary Secondary Schools position fell vacant after its holder Mr. Caleb Achimba joined the Kisii County government.
