An aspiring candidate for the forthcoming Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Secretary position in the Nyamira branch has been arrested.
Speaking to the Education News on the phone, Josephat Atunga stated that he was arrested by plainclothes policemen in Ekerenyo town and taken to the Ekerenyo police station cells in Nyamira North Sub-county.
“I have been here for the last 7seven hours undergoing excruciating torture and questioning on issues I do not understand. Please tell my mother that I am innocent and let my enemies not finish me,” he said.
He appealed to the Nyamira County Commissioner to intervene before his life is put in danger.

He blamed his KUPPET opponents for the mess and asked the police to remain nonpartisan.
Additionally, another unfortunate incident unfolded in which an Education News journalist sustained injury after being hit by police with the gun arm on my right side and cheek.
“I have been hurt by police who hit me with the gun arm on my right side and cheek as I tried to reach and interview Atunga,” he said.
“My left hand hurts seriously. Rushing to the hospital. May the authority follow up on this brother police, who wanted to kill me, yet I was just disciplined with my Job identification card,” he added.
