KUNOPPET holds first elections in West Pokot

The newly elected officials of KUNOPPET, West Pokot, after elections that were held yesterday.

The Kenya Union of Pre-Primary Education (KUNOPPET) West Pokot branch held its first elections yesterday.

This was after a series of diverse sensitization meetings that have been held nationally and locally by the chairman Lawrence Otunga.

More than 1800 teachers turned up to conduct the elections, bitterly complaining of low pay and stagnation in the same paypoints since 2004 and a lack of an appropriate forum to talk to the governor one on one about their challenges.

The West Pokot Executive Secretary Joseph Sarich thanked the electorate, confirming that it was a new dawn in ECDE teaching in the county. He promised that he will always uphold the ECDE sub-sector with decorum.

He also pledged to work with all stakeholders to ensure access, relevance and equity of ECDE services without partiality or discrimination on gender, religion, tribe, qualification or any other ground. Those elected include:

4 .V/Chairperson: Philemon Lotemosia
5.Organizing Secretary: Chamer Pamela
