Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened portal for the application of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) courses for candidates who sat their KCSE in 2024 or earlier

The applications window opened on Wednesday January 7, is expected to run to January 27, 2026.

KUCCPS further stated that, those who sat KCSE in 2025 will be considered in the September 2026 intake as they are yet to receive secondary school results.

In a statement on Wednesday, KUCCPS also stated that KMTC has recommended lowering the minimum requirement in Biology/Biological Sciences for the Certificate in Health Insurance Management Programme, from a minimum of D+ to a minimum of D (plain).

According to KUCCPS, the institution has lowered the entry grade for this course to support the implementation of the government’s Taifa Care programme.

It stated that students who pursue this course would have an advantage in the job market, where there is a demand for automation of health services and implementation of the Social Health Insurance.

“The Certificate in Health Insurance Management programme is meant to prepare health workers to support the roll-out of the Social Health Insurance, which is a key programme being implemented under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda,” KUCCPS added.

The insurance management course is offered as a two-year programme at KMTC campuses in Bondo, Chwele, Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyamache, Nyeri, Rachuonyo, Rera and Webuye campuses.

“The revision of minimum requirements cannot compromise the quality of training since respective professional bodies ensure that KMTC meets the required standards during training,” said KUCCPS.

Successful applicants are expected to join the medical college in the March 2026 intake where 21,774 vacancies are available in 36 Diploma and Certificate programmes offered in 98 KMTC campuses across the country.

The application period is under the 2026 phased university and college student placement process.

Holders of KCSE certificates are invited to log into the KUCCPS online application system and pick available KMTC Diploma and Certificate programmes subject to meeting minimum requirements.
