Kenyatta University (KU) edged Makerere Business School (MUBS) 2-1 to clinch gold in the hotly contested men’s football finals as curtains came down on the 10th edition of the All Africa University Games in Nairobi on Friday.

MUBS converted a left cross through Benjamin Nazar in the 26th minute to give his side a 1-0 lead at the breather.

The hosts resumed the second half strong, equalizing 1-1 in the 62nd minute through David Krop who capitalized on a melee on the opponent’s goal mouth.

KU scored a stunner in the 113th minute through Billy Clinton to win the game in extra time.

The feat will now see KU represent Kenya in the World University Games in China next year.

Kenyatta University are the football champions of the 10th Edition of All Africa University games 2022.

“We are not used to conceding goals; we get demoralized whenever we are scored. Our defenders made the small mistakes that cost us in the extra time,” MUBS captain Herbert Abima said.

KU coach Tobias Ochola was over the moon with the victory.

“This is a very momentous occasion for us, MUBS were dominant in the match but we managed the game and it paid off,” the jovial coach said.

Ochola however rued the chances they missed before they conceded the early goal.

The former Harambee Stars and Gor Mahia FC full back said he has already identified four players to beef up the squad before they depart for the China showpiece next year.

In other results, KU lost 77-74 in men’s basketball finals whose gold was bagged by Johannesburg University.
