The anxious wait for the outcomes on who would represent the Nyanza region in the national games has finally come to an end. With sadness and celebration in between, the Nyakach Girls have been eliminated from the competition despite a fierce fight for a spot.
Kobala girls will now represent the region in the 2025 KSSSA National Girls’ Soccer Championship.
Nyakach had contested their 2-1 semi-final loss, alleging Kobala fielded ineligible players. However, following a detailed review, KSSSA ruled that all 20 Kobala players were legitimate and eligible to compete, providing Kobala with a much-needed reprieve.

Cases of teams fielding ineligible players have been the most reported incidents during the ongoing regional games. In the Rift Valley, an appeal by Cheptalal girls against Kosirai was substantiated, which saw the possible Rift Valley champions settle for a regional level as their opponent moved to the next stage.
In the boys’ category, Chepsaita Boys were humiliated by St. Patrick’s Iten after the latter proved that they had fielded an ineligible player.
A national competition will be held in Kakamega, where such cases will be minimal, as only those cleared at regional levels will be allowed. This is where great talents are tapped. Aldrine Kibet, who has just signed a multi-million deal with Celta Vigo, excited the whole country with his skills.
