Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) 2nd Vice National Chairman Aggrey Murumba Namisi has urged elected union leaders to act as faithful custodians of the union’s constitution, saying strong adherence to its provisions is essential for effective service delivery and justice for teachers.

Namisi spoke at Bishop Delany School in Eldoret town while presiding over the KNUT Eldoret West Branch elections. He underscored the need for unity and collective responsibility among leaders, noting that teamwork and respect for the constitution form the backbone of a credible and responsive union.

He challenged the newly elected officials to place the constitution at the centre of their leadership, adding that it should guide decision-making, dispute resolution and the administration of services to members.

“The union can only remain strong if its leaders work together and uphold the constitution in both letter and spirit,” Namisi said, calling on officials to remain accessible and accountable to teachers.

During the polls, Nelson Kirui was re-elected as the Eldoret West Branch Executive Secretary for another term. Wilson Murgor was elected Branch Chairman, while Shillah Kosgei secured the Treasurer’s position. Edina Sigilai was elected Woman Representative, and Esther Andanje was chosen to represent Persons with Disabilities (PWD), among other officials.

The elections were conducted peacefully, with members expressing confidence that the new leadership team will advance teachers’ welfare and strengthen the union’s operations at the branch level.

Namisi congratulated the elected leaders and urged them to prioritise unity, service and justice as they take up their mandates, reiterating KNUT’s commitment to protecting the rights and interests of teachers nationwide.
