KNUT team thrown out of parliamentary hearing

KNUT
Hesborn Otieno Deputy Executive Secretary KNUT

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has faced a setback as the National Assembly Education Committee dismissed their representatives citing unpreparedness to address raised concerns.

The representatives were Deputy Executive Secretary Hesborn Otieno and Executive Administration Officer Mark Oseno.

The committee, chaired by Julius Melly (MP Tinderet), deferred the discussion on teachers heading schools without salary and allowance increases to a later date due to the representatives’ inability to respond adequately.

Among issues that they were directed to respond to is the monthly remittances from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to the union.

The committee further instructed the officials to return with key figures, including a list of teachers transitioning from primary to junior secondary schools, current KNUT membership, and salary bands for school head teachers.
