Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kisumu branch has lauded teachers, pupils and parents for the hard work that produced good performances.
Unlike last year, most schools this year registered improved means scores per subject, showing just how the academic glory in Nyanza was on the upward trend once again.
For the second straight time, there has been an upward trend in performance, an indication that it is just a matter of time before the region regained its position on the country’s academic map.
As the KCPE results were released, there was joy in a number of private schools in Kisumu city’s suburbs and Homa Bay County.
Knut branch Executive secretary David Obuon noted that there were schools that posted surprise results such as Kianja Primary School in Kajuku zone, which produced the best candidate. Rose Clara scored 416 marks and was the overall best in Kisumu East Sub-county.
Other notable schools that did well across the county were the little known Tiengre, Kotetni, Kanyamedha, and Kodiga primary schools. The best performing Sub-county was Kisumu Central.
Schools such as Xaverian, Victoria, MM Shah, Kondele, Joel Omino, St Paul’s Kanyakwar, Lake Primary, Migosi, Central and Haria primary schools all produced between 15 and 30 pupils with 400 marks.
For private schools such as Makinil, Citam, Hekima, Lolwe and Golden Elite, it was pomp, song and dance after the institution posted it’s ever best results.
Hekima School released its buses that traversed Kisumu city celebrating the good results this year.
According to the school Director Dr Richard Guya, 27 candidates sat the examination.
Dr Guya said the good results were as a result of hard work by students, teachers and other stakeholders. He said they expect even better results next year after the containment of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Top student Irine Wendy could not hide her joy.
“I want to attribute my good results to prayers and hard work,”she said.
School head teacher Mr Peter Okello said the results were some of the best in recent years.
But it was not Hekima alone which excelled. Makini School in Kibos produced the second best candidate nationally who scored 427 marks.
It was Momanyi Ashley who burst the school into celebrations led by head teacher Margaret Wanyonyi.
In the neighbouring Homa Bay County at Mbita Point International School (MPIS) and Janeiro Junior Academy (JJA), similar celebration rocked the schools.
Musava Clinton Jordan was the highest, posting 420 marks while Brent Odinde Odinde got 408, tying with Tom Obuya Odero.
