The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Henry Oyuu has secured a second term in office after being elected unopposed during the union’s national elections held at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu. Oyuu and his team are now poised to lead KNUT through the 2026-2031 term.
Oyuu’s deputy, Hesbon Otieno, was also elected unopposed, alongside National Chairman Patrick Karinga, First Vice National Chairman Malel Langat, Second Vice National Chairman Aggrey Namisi, National Treasurer James Ndiku, Deputy National Treasurer Kennedy Nyamwanda, and Assistant National Treasurer Kullow Mohammed.
The two National Women Representatives, Mercy Kambati and Mercy Ndungu, also retained their seats unopposed. Only the Assistant Secretary General position attracted multiple candidates, making it the sole contested seat in an otherwise calm and orderly election.

Despite high turnout and long queues, the voting process proceeded smoothly under heightened security. Delegates expressed satisfaction with the exercise, noting that the lack of contest in most positions reflected unity and confidence in the current leadership team.
Speaking after his re‑election, Oyuu reaffirmed his commitment to advancing teachers’ welfare and strengthening the union’s voice.
“Ladies and gentlemen, it is true that we have worked for these teachers. I want to say here, and now that we shall escalate, we shall augment what we’ve done to make it a notch higher, so that teachers of this republic shall sit to enjoy better terms and conditions of service, courtesy of this great union,” he said.
Oyuu also congratulated his colleagues who were elected unopposed and extended goodwill to those contesting the Assistant Secretary General position.
“I want to congratulate my colleagues with whom we’ve been elected unopposed, and I want to pray for the one who is contesting for the position of Assistant Secretary General to join us once he has been pronounced the winner,” he added.
The official results expected to be confirmed by the Ministry of Labour.
