KNUT boss calls on Gov’t to employ more teachers

By Agnes Orang’o

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Yatta Executive Secretary Kasimba Ngui has said that the government should employ more teachers to cater for junior secondary school learners.

“As it is now, there is no way the current number of teachers can handle the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC), more need to be employed and the government should take this seriously,” said Ngui.

Speaking at Machakos Girls High school during a public participation hosted by the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms on Friday, the KNUT boss suggested that Junior Secondary School (JSS) should be domiciled in primary schools.

He noted that it would be easy for the primary schools to accommodate junior secondary since they already have classes currently occupied by Class seven and eight learners.

The KNUT boss called on the government to take seriously the issues raised by teachers concerning CBC and act on them.

Ngui was accompanied by other KNUT officials from Mwala and Kangundo during the presentation.
