Grade 6 and Grade 8 national examinations timetable is out. As per the schedule released by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), Grade 6 learners started their examinations on Monday, 30th August, 2022.
KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njeng’ere gave out directives for all schools to download and administer examinations under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) by 9th September in relation to the assessment materials KNEC made available on its portal.
Schools will have a week to upload their learners’ scores to the portal after they sit for their examinations. Grade 6 learners have already concluded their practicals and projects.
The Grade 6 national assessments will see learners tested in 13 major subjects namely; English, Mathematics, Home Science, Science and Technology, Creative Arts (Art, Craft and Music), Kiswahili, Health Education and Moral and Life Skills and Physical Education.
Other subjects include History, Geography with an option of a foreign language (Chinese, Arabic, German and French).
The projects and practical work by all schools are to be uploaded on the KNEC portal by 16th September. Results will be determined through a five-subject summative national examination and a school-based assessment (SBA) which is done annually in upper primary classes.
Learners will attain 60 per cent of the score coming from SBA spread over grades Four, Five and Six plus 40 per cent of the summative report. Grade 6 candidates will sit for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) at the end of the year.
On the other hand, Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates will perform their try-out session on Friday, 25th November with examinations set to begin on Monday, 28th November.
The candidates will sit for the Mathematics paper in the morning hours followed by English language and English composition in the afternoon hours. They will also sit for Science, Kiswahili Lugha and Kiswahili Insha on Tuesday, 29th November. The candidates will conclude with Social Studies and Religious Studies on Wednesday, 30th November.
Meanwhile, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates will commence their examinations on Friday, 2nd December with the English language paper followed by Chemistry paper 1.
