Kitale-based St Joseph’s Girls, St Anthony Boys crowned FEASSA hockey champions

St Joseph’s Girls Kitale and St Anthony Boys have been crowned the 2026 FEASSA hockey champions after producing impressive performances in the finals in Morogoro, Tanzania.

St Joseph’s Girls Kitale secured the girls’ title after overcoming fellow Kenyan side Ng’iya Girls in a dramatic final that went down to a shootout.

The two teams battled to a 1-1 draw in regulation time, forcing the championship to be decided through a penalty shootout. St Joseph’s Girls held their nerve to win 3-2 and lift the coveted East Africa secondary schools hockey title.

The Kitale-based side showed composure under pressure, keeping their focus during the tense final before completing their campaign with victory in the decisive shootout.

The triumph marks a major achievement for St Joseph’s Girls Kitale, who can now celebrate their status as East Africa’s best girls’ school hockey team at the 2026 FEASSA Games.

St Anthony Boys take boys’ crown

In the boys’ competition, St Anthony Boys also completed a successful campaign after defeating Friends School Kamusinga 3-1 in the final.

St Anthony Boys produced a commanding display to overcome their opponents and secure the boys’ championship. Their three goals proved decisive as they maintained their advantage to the final whistle.

The double success gives Kenya both the girls’ and boys’ hockey titles at this year’s FEASSA Games, underlining the country’s strong showing in the sport at the regional school games.

For St Joseph’s Girls and St Anthony Boys, the victories provide a memorable finish to their campaigns and add another chapter to Kenya’s impressive record in East African school hockey.
