Kisumu Poly Principal bags top award for transformational leadership

 Kisumu National Polytechnic Chief Principal Catherine Kelonye has emerged Gold winner in the Digitally Fit awards.

Kelonye was named person of the year through creating impact online winning the award in the Polytechnic Visionaries category in event held at the Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi.

Kelonye was recognized for her trans-formative leadership which has elevated the institution to new heights.

She was also nominated for fostering and nurturing an innovative learning environment for both the students and the academic fraternity there.

The panelists noted that the award is a testament to her unwavering dedication and the significant impact she has made on both the institution and its students.

Speaking to Education News, Kelonye said she is surprised to be awarded the medal noting that she did not expect it at all.

She said the certificate of excellence presented to her would go a long way in motivating and the teaching fraternity and even staff at the institution.

Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o recently congratulated the chief principal for her transformative leadership at the technical institution.

Kelonye was last year among those who scooped awards during the Uongozi Carrer awards organized by the Corporate career academy.

She was voted the principal of the year and expressed delight with her win saying she did not expect to be voted the principal of the year at the event.

Kelonye previously served at the Sigalagala National Polytechnic before moving to her current position.

Mrs Kelonye has been credited with a lot of transformative actions at the national polytechnic which is at the moment undertaking a major project in textile technology.

She is an educationist with more than thirty years’ experience as a trainer across tertiary and basic education sectors.

She is also conversant with the ongoing reforms in the Education sector and is passionate to steer the TVET agenda in Kenya through positive engagement with all stakeholders.

She holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and a Bachelor of Education from Kenyatta University.

Her ultimate goal is to give young people an opportunity to unlock their potential, to either better develop their employability prospects or become self-employed through starting their own business.
