Parents, members of the teaching fraternity, and stakeholders in Kisumu County have been urged to give students proper guidance as they pursue various pathways.

Area region director of education Rosemary Birenge said it is imperative that learners are accorded the best opportunities to choose careers that will benefit them in the future.

Speaking at Xaverian Comprehensive School in Kisumu, Central Birenge stressed that learners should not be forced to choose pathways they don’t like.

Birenge cautioned teachers not to force learners into taking pathways that interest tutors.

Similarly, Birenge urged parents not to force learners into careers that serve only the interests of guardians.

The director said learners will face a critical time when they reach senior schools.

Birenge urged parents to support schools and also take a keen interest in the education of their children.

The director lauded the school management, led by headteacher George Polo, for maintaining high standards at the learning institution.

Polo said the school has done well in KPSEA so far and has always engaged stakeholders in all its undertakings.

Polo lauded the Ministry of Education and Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for supporting the school.

“We have enough teachers for primary and junior secondary,” he added.

He said facilities such as toilets are not adequate, but the school is trying to provide a conducive environment for the children to learn.

“The school is immaculate and conducive to learning despite the inadequate infrastructure required. We are grateful for the support from the parents and government,” Polo said.

He said the parents are very supportive and cooperative on matters of education, including the board, which termed them diligent in decision-making regarding the school.
