Kisii University Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) Academics, Prof Fredrick Wanyama has denied allegations that the institution over-enrolled students.

The DVC denied the allegations that the University admitted 16,000 for the 2024 intake.

The Prof was reacting to some complaints from some quarters about students who scrambled for rental houses and demanded for reduction of rental money from their landlords.

He said that the institution admitted 7772 students only adding that this was even lower than 2023 intake when they admitted 8000 students.

He admitted the University is growing garnering popularity because it offers a variety of courses that appeal to many.

“Students are looking for courses and programmes of their interest and they find them here. We cannot deny their choices and liking to our University,“ he said.

The Commission for University Education (CUE) has ascertained that Kisii University has the capacity to accommodate the 16,000 students comfortably.

She further argued that the institution offers 82 degree programmes which place the university in the third position offering a variety of programmes in the country.

“Our validation of universities is done on the basis of resources available in the university and the accreditation status,” Mwaka said.

Insiders at the university said that the institution is set to expand and annex Kisii National Polytechnic, which will be relocated to Riatirimba Technical Institute will be elevated soon.

Kisii University offers a variety of courses ranging from School of Health Sciences, School of Arts, School of Agriculture, School of Economics and School of Law among others.
