Parents of Emesa Primary School in Kenyenya Sub-county, Kisii County, on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest to oppose the appointment of a newly posted head teacher, accusing the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) of deploying an unsuitable officer to the school.

The parents also alleged corruption in the teacher deployment process and appealed to Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migosi Ogamba to intervene.

Carrying placards bearing messages such as “TSC Stop Dumping Rejects in Emesa,” “We Want Competent Leadership, Not Corruption,” and “CS Ogamba Rescue Emesa School,” the demonstrators gathered at the school’s gate, demanding the withdrawal of the new head teacher.

Some parents threatened to keep their children out of class until their concerns are addressed.

“Emesa is not a dumping ground for rejects. We appeal to the Cabinet Secretary to rescue us from this mess,” one parent said during the protest.

The parents claimed the newly appointed head teacher has a questionable professional record and faulted the TSC for allegedly making the deployment without consulting the school’s Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) or the local community.

They argued that the appointment could negatively affect the school’s leadership, disrupt learning, and undermine academic performance.

The parents further said they have petitioned the Ministry of Education and are awaiting a response, expressing hope that the Cabinet Secretary will visit the school to hear their grievances firsthand.

Efforts to obtain a response from the local TSC office were unsuccessful by the time of publication.
