Kinale Girls High School in Kiambu County has continued to underline its dominance in girls’ rugby after nine of its players joined the Team Kenya camp ahead of the Youth Olympics in Senegal.
The nine players are Diana Wanjiku, Josephine Kerubo, Effey Akinyi, Sharon Mukoya, Zain Hido Mohamed, Elizabeth Naliaka, Esther Moraa, Vilper Wangeshi and Everlyne Afandi Barongo. Their selection follows an outstanding season for Kinale Girls, which currently holds the national championship titles in both rugby sevens and 15-a-side rugby. The school has also achieved continental success, emerging East Africa champions in both rugby sevens and the 15-a-side version, cementing its reputation as one of the leading institutions in the development of girls’ rugby in the region.
The selection of nine players from the same school for the national youth camp is a major achievement for Kinale Girls and highlights the depth of talent within its rugby programme. The players will now have an opportunity to compete for places in the final Team Kenya squad as the country steps up preparations for the Youth Olympics.
