Teachers in Kericho County will hold a series of activities next week as part of preparations to mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebrations.
The pre-event activities will be held on September 29 at Kericho Teachers Training College (TTC), beginning at 8am, bringing together teachers and education stakeholders from across the county.
Organisers said the celebrations will be held under the global theme, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures,” and the local theme, “Twawaenzi Walimu – Mashujaa Wetu.”
The programme will feature friendly football and netball matches, teachers’ choir performances, a health screening and medical camp, information stands, an awards ceremony and other activities celebrating the contribution of teachers to education.
South Rift Hospital will provide health screening and medical services during the event, while information stands will feature organisations including the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA), Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA), Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and the Social Health Authority (SHA).
An awards ceremony will also be held to recognise teachers and other contributors to the education sector.
Tree-planting exercise
The celebrations will continue on September 30 with a tree-planting exercise at selected schools in Kericho Township, including Kimagu Primary School.
The activities have been organised by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Kericho County together with KESSHA Kericho, KEPSHA, KUPPET and KNUT.
The 2026 World Teachers’ Day marks the 60th anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, with organisers using the occasion to recognise the role of educators in shaping learners and communities.

All teachers have been invited to participate in the pre-event activities.
