- Kericho County has approved the allocation of five acres of land for the establishment of a Kenya Medical Training College campus in Kipkelion West.
- The proposed institution will be built next to Kipkelion Sub-County Hospital to support clinical training and healthcare education.
- County leaders say the project will strengthen healthcare services, create jobs and stimulate local economic growth.
The Kericho County Executive has approved the allocation of five acres of public land for the establishment of a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) campus in Kipkelion West.
The approval was granted during the 127th County Executive Committee meeting chaired by Governor Dr. Erick Mutai as part of the county’s 2026/27 Financial Year development agenda.
The proposed campus will be constructed on land adjacent to Kipkelion Sub-County Hospital, enabling students to utilise the existing health facility for clinical training while reducing the overall cost of establishing the institution.
Governor Mutai said the county is prioritising investments capable of delivering both social and economic benefits.
“Our development strategy is centred on investments that improve public services while generating long-term economic value. The KMTC campus represents a practical example of how public assets can be deployed to support education, healthcare and local economic growth simultaneously,” he said.
Investing in human capital
County officials said allocating the public land significantly reduces the capital investment required while strengthening collaboration between the county and the national government.
The project is expected to expand opportunities for students pursuing health-related courses while stimulating demand for accommodation, transport, retail trade, hospitality services and professional employment in Kipkelion and neighbouring areas.
Governor Mutai said developing skilled healthcare professionals remains essential to improving health service delivery and strengthening the county’s economy.
“Investing in human capital remains one of the highest-return investments any government can make. By training more healthcare professionals, we are strengthening essential services while creating opportunities for our young people and supporting sustainable economic development,” he said.
