Kenyatta University has emerged the overall winner of this year’s 8th edition of the Kenya Universities Sports Federation (KUSF) games held at Kibabii University.
The University was declared the winning team after scooping a total of 100 medals; 42 being Gold medals, 29 Silver and 29 Bronze medals.
The University of Nairobi (UON) also performed exemplary during the KUSF Competition.
Addressing the Officials and participating students, the acting Vice Chancellor of Kibabii University Dr. Eng. Benedict Mutua thanked all the universities students for exhibiting a high sense of discipline throughout the competitions.
Dr. Mutua urged the participants to continue doing more practice in nurturing of their respective talents to also help in building up a physically fit and healthy society.
He urged the students who have not yet been vaccinated to go for the Covid-19 Jabs so as to prevent the spread of the Corona –Virus.
Some of other Universities which performed well include Maseno University which got 15 Medals, Kibabii University with 36, Jomo Kenyatta University Of Agriculture And Technology (JKUAT) with 60 medals.
In Soccer, men’s teams; University Of Eldoret (UOE) appeared second runners up, followed closely by JKUAT And Kenyatta University who were the winners in the category.
In the women category, (UOE) came third, while the Kenyatta University’s team came second and Masinde Muliro emerged first.
In Basket ball, JKUAT men’s team was firs runners up followed by Kibabii university as Kenyatta University took position one.
In Basketball, women’s team from Kenyatta University came third position, followed by JKUAT’s team as UON emerged winners.
In Badminton men’s category, Maseno was second runners up, Kibabii University was first runners up while Kenyatta university were declared the winners while in the Women’s category Masinde Muliro University was ranked first runners up and Kenyatta University emerged winners.
In chase men’s category, Kenyatta university was position three, JKUAT position two and the winners were UON while in the women category MMUST was third, Kenyatta University second and JKUAT were the winners.
In Hockey men’s category, JKUAT came third, Kenyatta University second and Strathmore university took the lead hence in the women Hockey category MMUST were announced as the winners.
In Athletics for the men’s side Kenyatta University were awarded as First Runners up followed by Kisii University.
Elsewhere in Netball Men Kenyatta University Were declared as the winners as MMUST took a lead in the womens Netball Category.
In Rugby Sevens competitions Men Category Kibabii, Strathmore and Kenyatta University took positions one, two and three respectively while in the womens cadre University of Eldoret UOE came third, followed by Kenyatta university as Meru University was declared the champion.
In Scrubble game Men and category Masinde Muliro university of Science and Technology MMUST were the winners.
Table tennis Men category was won by JKUAT while the women side was won by the UON team.
In swimming, Kenyatta University won both categories and also in Taekwondo Kibabii University won both the male and Female categories.
Handball men’s Category was won by Strathmore university as Kenyatta University won the female side whereby JKUAT came third while MMUST settled for the second position.
The President of KUSF Mr. Mbabu Murithi and one of the Organizing committee members Mr. Kibet Rono urged universities to continue registering for more games in the up-coming editions of the games.
This year’s theme for the KUSF games was ‘Nurturing Talents for Livelihood and Sustainability through Sports’.
