Keiyo MP lashes out at CS Magoha over schools reopening

By Dennis Bett

Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof George Magoha has faced a withering backlash from Keiyo South MP Hon Daniel Rono over contradicting statements on the resumption of face-to-face learning.

Speaking to Education stakeholders at Koptega and Sitotwo Primary Schools during the launch of NG-CDF projects, Rono said parents should be given precise dates for them to prepare school fees and other necessities.

The Legislator said it is ironic that schools are closed yet politicians are conducting political rallies across the country without observing the Covid-19 protocols.

“As I call upon the CS to set the date and stop confusing parents, I urge parents to prepare for schools reopening since we want our children to go back to school,” said Rono.

However, the legislator decried the ballooning cases of teenage pregnancies experienced in the sub-county blaming idleness brought about by the closure of learning institutions to avert the spread of coronavirus.

Hon Rono wants stern actions to be taken against defilers and those who are still walking free to be brought to the book.

He, however, affirmed to Education News that he is working on ensuring that schools within his constituency have requisite facilities ahead of schools reopening.

He called on the youths to join Technical and Vocational Training centers across the county to acquire skills which will see them self-employed other than seeking white collar jobs.

In a move to revamp morality in the area, the MP said he has roll out a youth empowerment program dubbed ‘Maadili Mema’ which seeks to guide youths on good morals and importance of embracing education.
