- UASU Tom Mboya University chapter launched its strike, warning part-time lecturers not to teach or replace striking staff.
- Chapter chair Morris Ndolo accused part-timers from neighbouring universities of betraying the cause while benefiting from union gains.
- UASU says learning will be paralysed until demands are met, with action tied to court orders and national union guidance.
The University Academic Staff Union (UASU) has warned part-time lecturers against sabotaging its strike by teaching students.
The warning dominated the launch of the lecturers’ strike at Tom Mboya University in Homa Bay County. UASU officials said the action would paralyse learning at the institution until their grievances are addressed.
Speaking at the launch, Morris Ndolo, who heads the UASU Tom Mboya University chapter, directed his strongest remarks at part-time lecturers. He said such staff have at times undermined the union’s cause, even though they stand to benefit from its outcome.
“We want to appeal to the part-timers who sometimes betray the cause of what we are fighting for, and they are the final beneficiaries, and therefore I state we ask part-time lecturers from neighbouring universities to respect our collective action,” Ndolo said.

He told the lecturers to keep off the university, whether to replace striking colleagues or to teach. He also urged them not to accept any arrangement meant to weaken the strike.
Ndolo said the union will paralyse learning in universities until its demands are met. The strike at Tom Mboya University is the chapter’s part of a wider national action.
He formally launched the chapter’s mobilisation for the national strike. He said participation will be subject to court orders, verification and guidance from the national union.
