Kapsabet Boys High School emerged the overall winner during the highly competitive Kapsabet National Mathematics Contest, edging out top-performing schools from across the country in a battle of intellect and analytical prowess.
Hosts Kapsabet Girls High School settled for second place, while Matunda S.A Secondary School delivered a sterling performance to claim third position nationally and dominate several special categories.
The annual contest attracted some of Kenya’s leading academic institutions, with Maseno School finishing fourth, followed by Butere Girls High School in fifth place. Kabianga High School and Kakamega School also featured among the top-ranked schools.
However, it was Matunda S.A that emerged as the surprise package of the competition after scooping multiple coveted awards and scholarships.
The Likuyani -based institution was crowned Best Mixed School, Best Day School and Best Senior Category School, cementing its growing reputation as a rising academic powerhouse in mathematics and sciences.

In an additional boost to the school’s impressive outing, student Oscar Mulokota was named the Best Student Overall after an exceptional display of mathematical mastery and problem-solving skills.
The school walked away with a total of five trophies and three scholarships, making it one of the biggest beneficiaries of the national contest.
Education players hailed the competition for promoting critical thinking, innovation and academic excellence among learners, noting that mathematics contests continue to play a key role in nurturing future scientists, engineers and innovators.
The results also reflected the growing academic competitiveness among secondary schools, particularly in STEM subjects, as institutions intensify investment in mentorship programmes and academic clinics aimed at sharpening learners’ performance on the national stage.
