Kakamega Deputy Governor (DG) Ayub Savula has lamented that Teachers Service Commission (TSC) included names of teachers who died 5 years ago in the list of those promoted recently.
Savula said that the ineptitude of TSC has to stop since there are teachers who are alive and in need of the positions that were given to their departed colleagues.
Addressing teachers at Musoli in Ikolomani Sub-county, the DG said that those cases have become too rampant to be ignored.
“Recently two cases of failed teacher promotions were brought up, but TSC had included teachers who died long time ago. As leaders we will support teachers and the deserving cases must be promoted,” Savula said.
The DG’s remarks come hot on the heels of complaints by teachers and their unions that the promotion interviews were marred by inconsistencies and downright injustices.
Upon the release of the list of promoted teachers a while ago, both KNUT and KUPPET launched their own investigations into the complaints, which revealed that some teachers had been promoted posthumously.
It is then that KNUT launched a thorough audit of the promotions, instructing all its branches to come up with lists with specific details in their areas of jurisdiction, including the names of teachers promoted and their new designations.
The union is yet to compile and release that list for the consumption of the public.
