Kajiado North Sub-county leaders are asking the national government to put up learning institutions on part of the controversial Ngong’ Veterinary Farm Land.

In a meeting held on Thursday in Ngong town, the leaders led by area legislator Onesmus Ngogoyo and Kajiado Senator Seki Kanar said the property is government land and they only support the construction of public utilities on it.

They resolved that the government should construct a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and a Teacher Training College (TTC) on the land, saying it will create jobs for locals and provide training opportunities to thousands of students from within and other counties.

The leaders also proposed the construction of affordable houses, a railway station, slaughter houses, and Judicial premises on the land.

In 2021, the National Land Commission (NLC) indicated it was hiving off 20 acres for the constructing of a KMTC college and a Mathare Mental Hospital branch.

The NLC was also set to allocate part of the land to the Judicial Training Institute, having already put up a National Police Service Leadership Academy.

The Vet farm, which is still operational, is for conducting genetic research targeting improvements of local livestock breeds and carrying out vaccine trials, among other essential functions.

The land also hosts the Kenya Police, Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology, and other State agencies.

Ngogoyo said the Kajiado North locals will not allow the land to be allocated to individuals, pointing out that his Kajiado West counterpart George Sunkuya was meddling in matters that do not concern him and his constituency.
