The University of Kabianga has formally nominated celebrated Kenyan long-distance runner Beatrice Chebet for the prestigious Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters, recognizing her exceptional achievements in global athletics and her profound contribution to society and youth empowerment.
Chebet, one of Kenya’s most decorated athletes of the modern era, has risen to global prominence through remarkable discipline, resilience and excellence on the track.
She is a double Olympic champion, securing gold medals in both the 10,000m and 5,000m races during the 2024 Paris Olympics, followed by a repeat golden triumph in the same events at the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
With additional world records in the 5,000m track, 5km road race, and 10,000m, Chebet has cemented her place in athletics history, joining the elite ranks of Kenya’s legendary distance runners.
The university praised Chebet not only for her sporting excellence but also for her character and influence beyond the track.
“Ms. Chebet has demonstrated the values of hard work, ethical sportsmanship, and service to society,” the institution noted.

Born and raised in Saramek Village in Londiani Sub-County, Kericho County, Chebet is widely admired for her humility and commitment to giving back to the community.
She has continued to encourage youth involvement in sports, advocating for discipline, mentorship and equal opportunity for young women in athletics.
Chebet has also been nominated for the World Athlete of the Year Award 2025, adding to her growing list of international accolades.
The honorary degree will be conferred during the 13th Graduation Ceremony at the University of Kabianga, scheduled for Friday, November 14, 2025.
