Kabarnet University College breaks ground, poised to become hub of excellence in Baringo

Defence CS Soipan Tuya and Higher Education PS Beatrice Inyangala preside over the groundbreaking ceremony of Kabarnet University College, a constituent college of Moi University in Baringo County.

A new chapter in Kenya’s higher education story opened in Baringo County on Monday when Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Soipan Tuya presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for Kabarnet University College, a constituent college of Moi University that promises to transform academic access for students in one of the country’s underserved regions.

The ceremony was attended by Principal Secretary (PS) for Higher Education Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, Moi University Council members and Kabarnet University College faculty, among other guests.

Tuya said the institution is expected to become a centre of academic excellence, innovation and community engagement aligned with Kenya’s national agenda for sustainable and inclusive growth through education, research and skills development.

The new college addresses a longstanding infrastructure gap. Some programmes had been operating from the Seretunin Campus due to limited facilities, and the institution is designed to provide a more conducive learning environment while easing pressure on existing institutions.

Construction will proceed in phases, with the first phase targeting completion within 12 months. Key facilities to be delivered include tuition blocks, a library, an auditorium and an administration block. Subsequent phases will bring additional infrastructure as the college grows into a fully fledged academic hub.
