Three law students from Kabarak University have earned the honor of representing Africa in the upcoming International Mediation Competition to be held in Vienna, Austria from July 10 to 15.

The three; Dennis Onyango, Claudia Kang’ara and Levi Masinde, won The International Academy of Dispute Resolution (INADR) All Africa Mediation Tournament  earning them the privilege to represent Africa in the coming competition. They also secured 2nd place in the Top Mediator Category.

The prestigious competition brings together top law schools from across the world to showcase skills in mediation, a key alternative dispute resolution mechanism. Organized  annually, the event is designed to expose students to the practice of resolving international commercial disputes through negotiation and mediation , an area gaining importance in global legal circles.

The Kabarak students secured their spot after outperforming teams from across Africa in a fiercely contested regional selection held at their university. Their preparation, legal knowledge  and ability to mediate complex cases set them apart, earning them praise from both local and international observers.

The upcoming edition in Austria will see the Kabarak team face off against other elite teams from Europe, Asia, America and Australia. The event will test participants on their legal reasoning, negotiation strategy, communication skills and cultural sensitivity skills vital in today’s increasingly interconnected legal environment.

This moment is not only a win for Kabarak University, but also a major milestone for Kenya and Africa’s legal education landscape. It highlights the growing quality of legal training in African institutions and reinforces the continent’s place in the global academic arena.

University officials, including members of the law  faculty, congratulated the students and expressed confidence that they will make Africa proud. The team is expected to travel to Austria in the coming weeks, ready to carry the aspirations of the region.

As the countdown begins, all eyes now turn to Austria where these young Kenyan legal minds will engage the world, not in courtroom battles, but at the mediation table, where dialogue, understanding and resolution take center stage.
