A Bomet teacher has urged JSS aspirants eyeing KUPPET positions to build stable family foundations before seeking leadership roles.

A teacher from Bomet County has advised Junior Secondary School (JSS) aspirants eyeing elective positions within the KUPPET to first focus on establishing stable family lives before stepping into leadership.

Speaking without conditions of anonymity, the teacher argued that anyone seeking to represent and lead educators must demonstrate the ability to manage personal responsibilities, including family leadership, which they described as a foundation for public trust.

“Before you ask teachers to trust you with their welfare, you must show that you can lead a family,” the teacher said.

He added :”Marriage teaches responsibility, patience, and accountability—values that are essential for effective leadership.”

According to the teacher, many aspirants rush into KUPPET politics without first grounding themselves in personal stability, which can later undermine their ability to serve members effectively.

They added that successful leadership requires emotional maturity, consistency, and the capacity to balance competing demands—qualities they believe are strengthened within family settings.

The remarks come at a time when the KUPPET branch elections have attracted growing interest from younger teachers, including many from the JSS cadre who are keen to influence policy and improve working conditions.

The teacher urged them to pursue leadership but to do so with strong personal foundations.

“Ambition is good. We need new ideas and youthful energy,” the teacher said. “But leadership begins at home. If you can run a family well, you can lead teachers even better.”

The comments sparked mixed reactions among educators, with some agreeing that strong personal values matter in leadership, while others argued that marital status should not determine one’s ability to serve.

KUPPET branch elections are slated for next year, with campaigns already gaining momentum across various counties.
