A Junior Secondary School (JSS) teacher at a school in Lamu County on Sunday was killed by an enraged husband after a domestic quarrel.
Sheila Mokaya was a teacher at Mkungumi Junior School in Lamu Central, where she worked before her death. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) posted her in the county in 2023.
Ms Mokaya, together with her 5-year-old daughter, was shot dead by the officer before turning the gun on himself.

Sources privy to the education sector have urged teachers not to sit in an abusive relationship, to look for alternative ways to solve domestic issues, but not to wait for death.
“Don’t sit and wait to be killed, if a man says he will kill you and persistently states so, kindly don’t sit and wait for death, walk out,” said the source.
The bodies are at the Mpeketoni morgue.
