The Government has extended the Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) selection exercise by 10 days to give Grade 6 learners more time to select their preferred schools ahead of the January 2023 placement.
The registration deadline was initially set for August 30th but is now slated for September 10th.
Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof George Magoha said that learners were free to choose schools inside or outside their counties adding that the ongoing selection exercise was progressing well with a number of learners having completed the process.
The CS who spoke on Monday, 29th August at Moi Girls Isinya in Kajiado County where he commissioned CBC classrooms, called on Principals to liaise with education Directors to ensure smooth transition of learners to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).
The girls’ school has a capacity of accommodating 200 JSS learners.
Prof. Magoha said that the construction of Phase Two Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms was currently at 90 percent completion and would be completed on time thus Principals should prepare adequately for the January intake.
Out of the 10,000 CBC classrooms that were to be constructed, 800 classrooms remain but are in the final construction stages. However, there had been challenges in Nairobi, Kakamega and Bungoma but the CS said the Ministry was working to solve them.
Private schools were expected to construct additional 5,000 classrooms. 1,200 CBC classrooms have already been completed countrywide.
