In the just-concluded national Kenya Science and Engineering Fair (KSEF), Mukaa Boys secured position 2 out of 32 categories in Computer Science.
The competition, held at Garissa High School, saw Mukaa Boys, which had proceeded with the same project from county to regional and then to national level, emerging as the second best in Computer Science with the project titled Ballot Flow Electronic Voting System, presented by two boys, Innocent Nyamai and John Were, this being the first time they reached the national level.
The patron, Faith Kilonzo, noted that, being her own initiative, the project was not just a concept but a practical, scalable solution designed to enhance transparency, efficiency, and trust in the voting process.
“At a time when electoral integrity remains a critical issue, the system leverages technology to minimise irregularities, streamline voter verification, and deliver accurate and timely results,” Kilonzo said.
She noted that ‘Ballot Flow’ is not only a school project but a model of how young minds can shape systems that impact society.

The science patron expressed deep gratitude to the school’s chief principal, John Tuke, for the financial and moral support he accorded the two boys from research through to the presentation, adding that the presentation was commendable.

However, the same category also had Maranda Boys from Western topping the list with their project titled Hyperbloom. Other schools in the Eastern region, like Kithunguriri, scooped position 7 out of 32 categories, Mwaani Girls took position 22/32, and Kalulini Boys emerged at position 30/32, among other schools nationally.
