Kisumu Central MP Dr Joshua Oron has officially launched a 67-seater bus at the MM Shan Junior Secondary School within the lake town.

Dr Oron also clarified the source of the new school bus at MMSHA, ending an online debate over who financed the vehicle.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Dr Oron said the acquisition was made possible through a partnership between the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), the school’s board of management, and parents.

The project cost Ksh18 million, with parents contributing Ksh10 million and the MP’s office adding Ksh8 million over seven terms.

“We are at MMSHA Junior Secondary School to unveil a bus that has been bought through a partnership between the parents and the National Government CDF for Ksh18 million, with a capacity of more than 76 seats,” Dr Oron said.

The MP noted that the bus will facilitate academic trips and ease transport for teachers, students, and the surrounding community.

He also highlighted plans to upgrade the school’s infrastructure, including replacing asbestos roofs with iron sheets, converting temporary classrooms into permanent structures, and constructing additional classrooms to accommodate MMSHA’s 3,000 learners, a significantly high enrollment compared to other schools in Kisumu Central.

Dr Oron pledged to facilitate the construction of four more classes at the learning institution.

He praised the school’s management under the tutelage of the institution’s head, Mr Michael Oriedi.

Oriedi similarly lauded the MP for his continued support towards uplifting education standards in the area.

The MP said there are a number of ongoing projects within the constituency.

Local leaders, including Railway Ward MCA Sammy Onyango, Kondele Ward MCA Joakim Oketch and Kajulu Ward MCA Ben Adega, among other dignitaries, attended the launch ceremony.
