Dr Peter Waweru Kamaku, a senior lecturer at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) will be at the centre of Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 action today after being selected to officiate the Group B match between Angola and Zimbabwe in Morocco at Stade de Marrakech in Marrakech.

Waweru holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pure Mathematics, combining academic excellence with elite refereeing on the continental stage.

He is among three Kenyan referees appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the group-stage assignment, reinforcing Kenya’s representation in match officiating at the tournament.

Waweru made his tournament debut in 2019, officiating the final Group D match between Namibia and Ivory Coast, and returned for AFCON 2023 as one of 26 centre referees, where he handled the group-stage tie between Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

AFCON 2025 kicked off on Sunday, December 21, 2025, marking the start of the 35th edition of the competition as Group fixtures get underway in Morocco.
