ACK Chepsaita Secondary School’s rise to the summit of Rift Valley boys’ volleyball has been largely attributed to the leadership and sporting expertise of Principal Julius Kipruto Mibei, a seasoned educationist whose name has become synonymous with success in school volleyball across Kenya.
The veteran principal has built a reputation as one of the country’s most accomplished school sports administrators, with a proven record of nurturing competitive volleyball teams and guiding them to regional, national and East African success.
Mibei’s journey of success dates back to 2018 when he served as principal of St. Joseph’s Kapkenyeloi Secondary School in Nandi County.
Under his leadership, Kapkenyeloi stunned perennial national volleyball giants Cheptil Secondary School before earning the right to represent Kenya at the East Africa Secondary Schools Games.
His winning formula continued in 2023 at Andersen Secondary School in Trans Nzoia County.
That year, Andersen won the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national boys’ volleyball title after eliminating Cheptil in the semi-finals before defeating Olmoran Secondary School in a thrilling final played in Nyahururu.
Notably, Mibei has consistently enjoyed success whenever his teams have faced Cheptil, one of Kenya’s most decorated school volleyball sides.
Building Chepsaita
In 2024, Mibei joined ACK Chepsaita Secondary School in Uasin Gishu County and immediately set out to build another volleyball powerhouse.
Although the school made little impact during his first season, the foundation had already been laid.
The breakthrough came in 2025 when Chepsaita won the Uasin Gishu County boys’ volleyball title, announcing itself as one of the region’s rising forces.
To strengthen his technical bench, Mibei recruited Mark Kirwa, his former rival during the 2023 regional and national competitions, bringing together two experienced volleyball tacticians.
Their partnership delivered immediate results at the 2026 Rift Valley Secondary Schools Games in Narok.
Chepsaita produced an outstanding performance to defeat Andersen Secondary School—Mibei’s former team—in the regional final.
After Andersen eliminated Cheptil in the semi-finals, many expected a closely contested championship match.
Instead, Chepsaita dominated from start to finish, winning in straight sets: 25-17, 25-19 and 25-21.
The victory secured the Rift Valley boys’ volleyball title and qualification for the KSSSA National Term Two Games later this month in Thika, Kiambu County.
Beyond volleyball
Mibei’s influence extends beyond volleyball.
Under his leadership, ACK Chepsaita’s girls’ netball team reached the Rift Valley regional final after an impressive campaign that included a remarkable 103-3 victory during the Turbo Sub-County Championships.
He also serves as Chairman of the Turbo Sub-County Secondary Schools Association, a position he assumed shortly after joining Chepsaita in 2024.

With the national championships approaching, Chepsaita will be among the favourites to challenge for the national title.
Given Mibei’s proven record of building winning teams, many believe the school’s remarkable journey is only just beginning.
