Homabay Governor wants parents who incited students to attack Principal punished

Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga

The Governor of Homa Bay County, Gladys Wanga, has said that the students’ behavior of mistreating the principal had been fueled by certain parents who joined them, calling for a thorough police investigation to hold these parents accountable.

She pointed out that minor issues should be addressed within the school community before escalating, and she held the school administration responsible for failing to address the students’ concerns adequately.

Reportedly, the incident transpired when a group of senior students stormed the principal’s residence, demanding an explanation for unsweetened porridge.

When the principal hesitated, the students physically assaulted him and pressured him to accompany them to the police station.

Some parents later joined in, questioning the Ministry of Education’s inaction in transferring the principal due to allegations of mismanagement and arrogance.

The distressed principal was eventually rescued by the police and taken to the hospital for treatment, having sustained injuries to his chest and arms.

The Chairman of Homa Bay branch of the Secondary School Heads Association Paul Mbaru condemned the students’ actions as regressive and urged the Ministry and the police to apprehend those responsible for assaulting Principal.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Samson Kinne also decried the incident, assuring a swift investigation to apprehend the culprits.
