Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Gucha branch has expressed satisfaction with the preparedness for this year’s KCSE examinations and wished candidates and those involved in conducting the month-long exercise good health and success.

Speaking to Education News in Ogembo town, Gucha Branch Chairman Ayubu Okemwa said National examinations are very important as they mark one’s academic transition to another stage, and asked the community to accord candidates a conducive environment as they navigate this educational milestone.

“We have an obligation to guard the lives of our children by giving them encouragement and confidence that will help them work independently without fear and emerge victorious,” he said.

He thanked the Principals of the 24 secondary schools within his jurisdiction. He congratulated them on successfully closing schools in the third term for the lower classes despite financial constraints at their schools, brought about by delays in remittances of capitation fees to schools.

Referring to the Principals as colleagues of the container, a name coined in the region to refer to secondary school principals who collect and return examination materials from the safety containers placed centrally at the education offices during the examination period, to reflect on the past and plan to make next year a success in their respective institutions.

He asked the CS for Education, Julius Ogamba, to honour his promise to release capitation funds to schools early next year, enabling them to operate smoothly without any disruption from debtors such as suppliers and support staff.

He asked the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to consider enumerating Deputy headteachers who accompany headteachers as Deputy Centre Managers during the examination period.

“This cadre of centre managers needs to be recognised and motivated because they play a pivotal role in administering discipline in schools and other administrative duties, “he said.

The Chairman asked all candidates to conduct themselves with decorum during and after the examinations so that they could thrive in their daily lives.
